The Samsung 9100 PRO is Samsung’s first PCIe 5.0 SSD for consumers, and the 4TB model is built for people who need both speed and room: 8K video projects, large RAW photo libraries, AI models, virtual machines and big game libraries. It reaches up to 14,800 MB/s sequential read and 13,400 MB/s sequential write — roughly twice what PCIe 4.0 drives deliver — with random performance of up to 2,200K read and 2,600K write IOPS, so it stays responsive even when thousands of small files are being accessed at once.
Inside, a Samsung in-house controller pairs with Samsung V-NAND TLC flash and 4GB of LPDDR4X cache, with Intelligent TurboWrite accelerating large write bursts. The drive is rated for 2,400 terabytes written and 1.5 million hours MTBF, backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Hardware-based AES 256-bit full disk encryption with TCG/Opal V2.0 and IEEE 1667 support keeps data protected without slowing the drive down.
The 9100 PRO uses the standard M.2 2280 form factor and is backward compatible with PCIe 4.0 x4 and 3.0 x4 slots, so it works in older systems at those interfaces’ lower speeds. It is also compatible with PlayStation 5 for expanded game storage — note that Sony requires a heatsink for PS5 M.2 drives, and this model is the bare drive, so add a heatsink for PS5 use. Samsung Magician software provides drive health monitoring, firmware updates and performance optimisation.
